- What is NRM?
The plan review was two years in the making and involved hundreds of community members and NRM practitioners and dozens of organisations.
Territory NRM consulted widely across all sectors of the community to find out what natural resource decisions should be made; how resources should be allocated; what management actions we, as Territorians, need to undertake; and what information, resources and opportunities we need to do so.
We looked at the first plan – what worked, what didn’t. We commissioned respected scientists and researchers to review the knowledge base and invited submissions from government and community groups. We then developed a consultation draft which was released to broader community consultation in 2010.
The style and format of the consultation draft was revised in response to the initial feedback received. While still drawing on a rigorous collection of background evidence to support its recommendations, the draft plan was made easier to read.
The original asset-based structure was changed to reflect people’s issues of concern. Hence in both the consultation draft and the final revised INRM plan, issues – or topics - are central to the plan’s structure.
