WATER RESOURCES AND SOIL MANAGEMENT
Maintaining the health of the Territory’s water and soil resources is vital given the increasing interest in improving the productivity of the pastoral sector, expanding irrigated agricultural ventures, and developing new aquaculture, mining, oil and gas projects. TNRM supports sharing knowledge and engaging with communities to inform best practice water and soil management.
SOIL WEALTH DARWIN
Under the Northern Territory Regional Landcare Facilitator project, TNRM has formed relationships with stakeholders within the horticulture industry Australia-wide. The Soil Wealth initiative provides growers with best practice information via a network of demonstration sites and social media. Practices focus on building soil health, improving productivity and profitability.
LUDMILLA CREEK LANDCARE GROUP
Ludmilla Creek is tidal system in the middle of Darwin that supports a combination of woodland, monsoon forest and mangrove communities. The creek has been impacted by land-clearing, invasive weeds and the creation of a sewer line embankment that restricts the natural run-off and tidal water. The Ludmilla Creek Landcare Group obtained funding through TNRM to support fire management, revegetation, weed management and to conduct educational programs.
