HOWARD SPRINGS
DEFENCE & PINE FOREST BUFFER

Gamba grass infests the fence line bordering Defence Establishment Howard Springs North, the ‘Pine Forest’, a popular recreational area for Darwin locals, and native woodland and paperbark swamp on Crown Land. The delineation between tenures meant gamba grass was ‘flying under the radar’ of different land managers.

The Gamba Army has addressed this; control of gamba grass on this site will minimise future spread into surrounding blocks, and support current investment in weed management by Department of Defence and NTG, and maintain a valued recreational area. The Gamba Army is leveraging off existing weed management contracts.
